Speakers Announced for 2018 Governor’s Summit on Rural Prosperity


Featured speakers and presenters have been announced for next month’s Governor’s Summit on Rural Prosperity. The event, which takes place October 21-22, 2018 at The Stonewall Jackson Hotel & Conference Center in Staunton, will be headlined by a keynote from Virginia Governor Ralph Northam.

Hosted the Virginia Rural Center, the annual summit brings together local, state and private sector representatives from across Virginia to discuss innovative initiatives occurring in rural communities.

Other featured speakers will include:

  • Brian Ball, Secretary of Commerce and Trade

  • Daniel Carey, M.D., Secretary of Health and Human Services

  • Evan Feinman, Chief Broadband Advisor

  • Megan Healy, Chief Workforce Development Advisor

  • Carlos L. Hopkins, Secretary of Veterans and Defense Affairs

  • Atif Qarni, Secretary of Education

  • Bettina Ring, Secretary of Agriculture and Forestry

  • Matthew J. Strickler, Secretary of Natural Resources

  • Shannon Valentine, Secretary of Transportation

The event will commence with a welcome reception from 5:30 pm-7:00 pm on Sunday, October 21 with remarks from Secretary Ball. Governor Northam will speak during breakfast on Monday, October 22. A detailed agenda will be posted soon.

Online registration closes on October 12, with discounted registration fees and hotel rates available until October 1.
